All Outdoor Activities Canceled 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for July 4, 2026

Due to the National Weather Service extreme heat warning in effect for Fairfax County, all outdoor activities scheduled on Fairfax County public schools’ fields and courts from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, are canceled, including recreation programs and community use by outside groups not affiliated with FCPS.

According to the National Weather Service, our area can expect a heat index between 110 and 113 degrees. This type of heat can be very dangerous, which is why we are canceling outdoor activities on Saturday as well. Extreme heat resources, including the locations of cooling centers and safety tips, can be found on the Fairfax County website.

Please also refer to the Fairfax County webpage on fireworks safety as you prepare for the holiday weekend. The Fourth of July is a wonderful celebration, but it’s important everyone takes the right safety precautions so holiday celebrations can stay fun.

We will provide additional updates directly with families as conditions evolve and this heat continues.
